The first Tuesday of every month is song swap workshop night at the Thomas Memorial! For over 5 years now, a group of us have been meeting to share songs and hone our craft. Each participant who would like to share brings a song that is in-progress, along with 8-10 printouts of lyrics. We take care to offer feedback that is tailored to the writer's questions, always with an eye toward what the artist is trying to achieve with their work. All are welcome, but we only have time for 6 songs per session so it may be not everyone gets a chance to share every month.

A Night of Irish Song

Hammond Hall, 427 Main St. , Winter Harbor, ME

Multi-instrumentalist Jud Caswell celebrates the release of his "Morning Cordial Vol.2" - a collection of Irish songs recorded and released as videos during the first months of COVID lock-down.

Maine singer/songwriter Jud Caswell has got a keen eye for detail, a head full of far-away, and a heart full of home. In 2006 he burst on the national scene, winning the legendary Kerrville New Folk competition. His songs have been taught at Berklee, recorded by Judy Collins, and named “#4 Song of the Decade” by New York’s WFUV. Jud left the road to raise a family where his own roots go deep. He draws inspiration from the land like Mary Oliver, pushing gently into the specific until it unfolds into the universal. He paints his landscapes like Wyeth, with a reverence for humble beauty. And with a voice fresh as water over granite and soft as a pine needle bed, he wields his instruments with the matter-of fact deftness of an old woodsman with an axe.

Doors open at 6:30pm.

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the release of "The Homebound Hooligans," a CD of Irish and folk music. This collection feels like a one-man ceilidh, where songs of love and loss are buoyed by rolicking singalongs. Join us March 9, for an evening filled with guitar, banjo, cittern, and whistle as we toast the Emerald Isle!

From March 2020 through September of 2021, I was deeply involved in the creation of the online services for the UU church of Brunswick. I played hymns and sang songs by myself and with my family and other guests. I love that we can all be together now, but I miss the connection I was able to forge in that time. I love the opportunity to make music in this wonderful space!

Concerts for a Cause

UUCB, 1 Middle Street, Brunswick, ME

This concert will be a "Morning Cordial Retrospective" celebrating the pressing of my "Morning Cordial Vol. 1" CD! "The Morning Cordial" is a video series that I launched in March of 2020 to provide a sense of warmth and connection in a time that felt very solitary and isolating. I published a video every weekday for that whole first summer, and the series now has over 175 videos. Those videos included my own original songs, acoustic favorites, and many Irish songs.
